American River 50 Mile Endurance Run

Crew Instructions and Tips

Excellent areas from which to view runners are William Pond, Sunrise, Negro Bar, Beal's Point, Granite Bay Horse Assembly Area and Rattlesnake Bar.

Park fees: American River 50 Mile Endurance Run travels through several jurisdictions including the County of Sacramento and the California State Parks. Each require a daily use fee or use of an annual pass.

William Pond and Sunrise Aid Stations are in the Sacramento County Parks District and require a ($5) fee per vehicle unless you have a County Park Pass. If you frequently patron the American River Parkway, please consider supporting the County of Sacramento and purchasing a Parkway Pass

All other crewing and viewing areas are located in the California State Parks District and require a ($10) fee per vehicle unless you have a Golden Poppy Pass. If you frequently patron the AR50 trails, please consider supporting the CA State Parks and purchase a Golden Poppy Pass

Crews are responsible for paying the day use fees. If there is not a ranger present at the kiosk in to the parks, you are still responsible for self-payment through their drop box as you enter the parks. Please observe all posted signage and placards by the County and CA State Parks.

NorCalUltras will not be responsible for any violations or tickets.

Absolutely no crews are allowed at Nimbus Overlook, Horseshoe Bar, Manhattan Bar and Last Gasp.

**Crewing at one of these locations, can result in runner disqualification.

NO PARKING is permitted at Folsom Dam and along the road leading into Beal's Point. Park in designated areas only.

Crew Driving Directions

Start

From the Bay Area take I-80 east to the I-80/Hwy. 50/Capital City Fwy. interchange. Proceed east on the Hwy. 50 for 8.5 miles. Take the Howe Ave exit. Turn left on Howe Avenue. Turn left on University Ave. (3rd stoplight after you cross over the American River Bridge). Drive 0.8 miles down University and look for signs directing you to short or long-term parking near the pedestrian ramp leading up to Guy West Bridge. Short-term parking is for those runners that will not be leaving their vehicle at the start line. Use long-term parking if you will be leaving your vehicle at the start for the remainder of the day.

From Placerville, take Hwy. 50 west to Howe Avenue. Turn right (north) on Howe Ave. Turn left on University Ave. (3rd stoplight after you cross over the American River Bridge). Drive 0.8 miles down University and look for signs directing you to short or long-term parking near the pedestrian ramp leading up to Guy West Bridge.

William Pond
Follow American River Dr. back to Watt Ave, turn right on Watt and travel north for 0.3 miles to Fair Oaks Blvd. Turn right on Fair Oaks, drive 2.6 miles to Arden Way and turn right. Follow Arden Way 0.7 miles and enter the William Pond Recreation Area. This is a Sacramento Country park and a $5.00 parking fee is required.

Sunrise
Follow Arden Way back to Fair Oaks Blvd and turn right. Proceed 3.4 miles. Fair Oaks Blvd curves to the right at this point. Follow Fair Oaks another 3.1 miles and turn right on Sunrise Blvd. Proceed 0.5 miles and turn left on South Bridge Street. Follow South Bridge for 0.5 miles, enter the Sacramento County park (parking ticket stub from William Pond can be used to gain entry) and turn left. Follow the road to the aid station. $5.00 parking fee is required if you don't already have one from William Pond.

Negro Bar
Exit the Nimbus Aid Station and turn right on Hazel. Proceed 1.9 miles and turn right on Madison Ave. Proceed 2.7 miles and turn right into Negro Bar State Park. $10 parking fee is required. The day-parking pass is good at all State Parks.

Beals Point
Exit Negro Bar and turn right on Madison. Proceed 0.3 miles and turn left on Folsom-Auburn Road. Drive 2.7 miles and turn right into Beals Point. $10 parking fee is required. The day-parking pass is good at all State Parks.

Granite Bay
Exit Beals Point, turn right on Auburn-Folsom Rd. Drive 1.2 miles, turn right on Douglas Blvd. Follow Douglas to the ticket kiosk. Travel one mile and follow the signs to the designated crew parking areas. Park in the designated area at Granite Beach and walk to the aid station, which is located in the horse assembly area. You cannot park at the horse assembly area. $10 parking fee is required. The day-parking pass is good at all State Parks.

Horseshoe Bar
No crew access.

Rattlesnake Bar
Exit Granite Bay, follow Douglas Blvd. to Folsom-Auburn Rd. and turn right. Proceed 10 miles to Newcastle Rd. and turn right. Follow Newcastle to Rattlesnake Bar Rd. and veer right. Follow Rattlesnake Bar Rd. into the park and stay right. Park in designated areas only. $10 parking fee is required. The day-parking pass is good at all State Parks.

Last Gasp
Crews may walk to this area. No access by car. It is 2.4 miles from the finish at the Auburn Dam Overlook.

If you are coming from the Rattlesnake Bar aid station, return to Auburn-Folsom Rd. and turn right. Proceed 4 miles to Pacific Ave. in Auburn and turn right. Follow Pacific to the Auburn Overlook parking lot and the finish area.

From I-80 West, take the Indian Hill exit at Newcastle. Proceed to Auburn-Folsom Rd. and turn left. Proceed to Pacific Ave.

From I-80 East, take the Newcastle exit, which is approximately two miles west of Auburn. Go straight at the traffic signal, this will put you on Indian Hill Road. Go up Indian Hill Road for approximately two miles to the signal light. Turn left on Auburn-Folsom Road. Follow Auburn-Folsom Road to Pacific Avenue. Turn right on Pacific Avenue and follow it approximately one mile to the Auburn Overlook (large parking lot on your right).
